About the Art

With my painting, most often I paint on location and work toward trying to capture what that environment tells me. I’m not worried about capturing exactly what I see, but rather the feeling of the place. I work loose, trying to capture the essence fast, before it slips away. Most often, I complete most of the painting on location with just a few touch-ups in the studio.

With my fiber or mixed media pieces, I work in the studio pulling from the principles and elements of design to create images that are rich in texture, shape, line and especially color.

Bio

I am an artist who is constantly trying to push boundaries. The shapes I use, the colors I choose, the marks I make are often not part of the visual field in front of me but my attempt at making my painting, mixed media or fiber piece more intuitive, more innovative and more evocative. To me, it’s not the actual capture of what’s visible but more the capture of the heart or feeling. The tools I use are chosen in part to help me on this journey. I am very experimental with techniques and equipment, ranging from a scrapper to a sewing machine. I believe that the human condition needs art. Art offers creative options to problem solving. It is important to acknowledge that there are many different solutions. This is my solution to my artistic journey through this life. I hope you can see this in my work and appreciate my journey. New Mexico is my home. I live north of Taos, in Questa next to the Carson National Forest.
